Ruth is in essence a colourist; she absorbs the geographical and physical colours around her and interprets them presenting her own response to the environment around her utilising them into a grid work of brushstrokes, shapes and colour planes.

Ruth’s work has a sense of perspective and dimension, and yet she also pays homage to the surface of the canvas with a textural and painterly effect. This attention to the surface combined with her line-work creates a wonderful subtle tension.
