ARTIST'S STATEMENT My paintings are expressions of past and present experiences and influences, and strive to find my personal expression of the world in which I live. As a contemporary painter I draw the viewer in to engage with my expressionistic + abstract style of subject matter where my emotions and visions emerge by means of pulsating colours. Through the act of painting, an energetic effect takes place through the use of colour and form painting in intensely vibrant and dynamic colours. Nature inspires a lot of my work. After living for nearly two decades in New York City I am stimulated by the world around me – memories, objects, landscapes, figures etc. Travel and discovery of new and exciting ideas allows me to interpret it uniquely in the application of bold and gestured brushstrokes of colour. The works’ surfaces are produced through opulent colours and textures thereby having a tactile quality that pulsates with vibrancy of colour. I am a colourist. Line, colour and brushstroke – sometimes frantically vigorous and at other times more quiet are dependent upon mood, and the organic emerging of metaphors for example in the landscape and figurative develops my awareness and imagination. The flexibility of brushes in motion together with the application of paint, carried out in an agitated way and in a quick and energetic method of direct painting is what painting is all about for me.
