ARTIST'S STATEMENT After many years in business and travelling extensively throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia, Leonie began her painting career in the late 1980s. Only after those years of travel overseas did she come to recognise and to feel the history that lay in our own outback communities and it was that subject matter which first inspired her paintings. "It isn't just the architecture that I find interesting, but I feel the presence of the folk who lived and worked there, were happy and sad, who were married, had children, died there." She undertakes regular field trips in search of this material. curriculum vitae From the late 1980s Leonie has exhibited widely throughout south east Queensland, Sydney, the Blue Mountains and, during travel to Scotland, exhibited there. She has been the recipient of many prizes and awards. Her depictions of rural townships and our unique and historic outback pubs are categorised in the representational to romanticist range and the clean, crisp, high-key style has proved increasingly popular with both Australian and international collectors.
