ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Satori's artworks are eclectic in subject choice, driven by emotional and intellectual spontaneity which befits her exuberant personality. Like fragments of a kaleidoscope the point of reference for her sculptures and paintings is reality, the techniques and styles keep metamorphosing.

Just as her life long exposure to many cultures shaped her outlook on life so have certain art ideologies such as surrealism and expressionism become part of her artistic expression. The use of bright colours, imaginary lands and beings or abstract concepts of suffering/happiness inhabit her canvas and stone sculptures. Mystique defines her black and white photography, her monoprints and etchings.

In the past Satori's commission base was often protraiture and landscape facilitating her favourite pastime of contemplation and reflection on the essence of being and the meaning of existence.

Sonia has had numerous successful major exhibitions in New South Wales and joins group exhibitions on a regular basis. Her art works are found in homes in Canada, USA, Venezuela, Austria, Taiwan and Australia. Sonia works from 'Studio Satori' at her Blue Mountains base in Medlow Bath.
